Tues 13/05/2014Professor Ian Wilson Imperial College London - Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery and Cancer "What's in a phenotype? - Personalized Medicine and Metabolic Profiling"
There is a growing realization that, with the ever rising costs of healthcare we need to get the right drugs to the right patients at the correct doses more often than we do now. This is not exactly a devastatingly new insight but, if it was easy we would be doing it routinely for everyone already. The study of genes is one way forward, but there are others. This SciBar will be a walk through an alternative approach which is to examine the metabolic phenotypes of patients and populations, obtained via metabonomics, which employs the latest advances in analytical chemistry and informatics to study health and disease.
